Hardwood – Single Ground

We offer only the best single ground hardwood. Sure, there are cheaper alternatives, but we’ll leave that to the other guys. Comprised of a high concentration of Oak Bark with absolutely no fillers. This single process mulch contains lots of fines plus all the overs, or coarser particles. Very stable, durable, and filled with plenty of goodies that plants love. A little tough to work with but you’re rewarded with a mulch that has tenacious grip and a long duty cycle.

  • Duty cycle: short to medium
  • Color Retention: short
  • Washing/Floating: very stable
  • Difficulty to spread: medium
  • Cost to maintain: medium

Hardwood – Standard Double Ground

Just like our premium, this double hammered mulch contains no fillers (waste debris or old pallets). Sadly the use of fillers is common. Don’t let its name fool you: this is high-grade stuff! In fact, our “Standard” is better than 90% of the so-called premiums out there! We use a combination of 2 and 3 inch screens to give an attractive variation to the texture. A Medium-fine texture bridges the gap between extra-fine (Premium) and coarse (Single Ground). A best seller for over 15 years.

  • Duty cycle: short to medium
  • Color Retention: short
  • Washing/Floating: very stable
  • Difficulty to spread: medium
  • Cost to maintain: medium

Hardwood – Premium Double Ground

The best double ground hardwood available anywhere! Exceptional quality! We use pure bark and very high quality control. Unique to Discount Bark, no one offers a double ground hardwood that comes close to the quality and consistency of this mulch. Don’t be fooled by all the so-called premiums out there, this is what a premium should be. Very fine and unique texture. Easy to work with, erosion resistant, dark when aged but like all hardwoods, it will lose its color in time.

  • Duty cycle: short to medium
  • Color Retention: short
  • Washing/Floating: very stable
  • Difficulty to spread: easy
  • Cost to maintain: medium

Pine – Single Ground

Good Pine is a rarity these days. With the price you have to pay for “Bagged Bark” some folks are making a fortune, and therefore, the Bagging operations buy it up like crazy, but that’s another conversation. Often, our Single Pine is screened to produce a quality nugget texture. It’s quite durable and holds its color well. Like all pine it’s easy to spread, but susceptible to washing.

  • Duty cycle: durable
  • Color Retention: modest
  • Washing/Floating: unstable
  • Difficulty to spread: medium to easy
  • Cost to maintain: low

Pine – Double Ground

We use a pre-screen process that allows the small bark nuggets to pass without crushing them. The result is unique and makes for a great product. It’s much better looking and last longer than the crushed up stuff. Again, no fillers are used, just pure pine bark. Pine mulches keep their color longer than Hardwood but are more prone to washing or floating. Pine is lightweight, easy to spread, and surprisingly durable.

  • Duty cycle: moderately durable
  • Color Retention: medium to long
  • Washing/Floating: unstable
  • Difficulty to spread: medium
  • Cost to maintain: easy

Pine – Mini Nuggets

Pine Bark that has been sized and separated into nuggets about the size of a 50 cent piece. This product is very attractive. Nuggets, like all pine products, are in short supply these days. Typically darker than the other pine mulch varieties. Mini Nuggets are very easy to spread and are susceptible to washing or floating.

  • Duty cycle: durable
  • Color Retention: modest
  • Washing/Floating: unstable
  • Difficulty to spread: easy
  • Cost to maintain: medium

Cypress – Color Enhanced

The longest lasting mulch available! …and because we use generous amounts of high quality pigmented dye, it has the longest color life of any mulch available! Scrimping on dye increases profits, but it severely shortens color life. There are no other natural mulches that can outperform our color enhanced cypress. It’s lightweight, easy to spread, not prone to washing or floating, and it’s totally termite resistant. Tops in every category, including customer satisfaction.

  • Duty cycle: very durable
  • Color Retention: longest available
  • Washing/Floating: stable
  • Difficulty to spread: easy
  • Cost to maintain: low

Cypress - chips

By far the best product for playgrounds. Last twice as long as the other gimmicky-named playground chips! Cypress chips are clean and have high percolation, in other words, they dry fast after a rain. Cypress Chips don’t compact like other “soft-wood” chips or bark mulches. Which means they can absorb impacts better over a longer period of time. Easy to work with and as a bonus, in medium to high traffic playgrounds, they keep a nice golden appearance.

  • Duty cycle: very durable
  • Color Retention: medium to low
  • Washing/Floating: unstable
  • Difficulty to spread: easy
  • Cost to maintain: low
